I am ... still trying to get the creative x-fi 5.1 working satisfactorily. I have tried the OSS drivers, which would not suit my purpose, I need alsa support, so am now compiling a kernel as per the info here http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=4823915&postcount=675 for installing the open source creative (beta and apparently buggy) 'official' drivers.
WIFI support and documentation of using WPA on Ubuntu (or anywhere else for that matter) is RIDICULOUSLY BAD, if not non-existent. The vast majority of the docs you will find show how to setup WEP, which is horribly broken and insecure, not to mention ancient in this day and age. Obviously, we all must use WPA or better, yet linux seems to only now be catching up with this.
Well, this annoyed me a little. I am used to putting my keychain (ssh-agent) startup in ~/.bash_profile, so it will be sourced at login either at desktop or remotely. Unfortunately, Ubuntu has taken away this functionality, and replaced it with.... well, we have no idea, since it is not written in the file itself, or anywhere except by google finding.
